Suffolk Coast eNewsletterDiscover the Suffolk Coast
The Suffolk Coast is a unique and delightful place, whatever the time of year. A popular family holiday spot in the height of summer, but off-season this wonderful part of East Anglia really comes into its own. The countryside in this part of Suffolk is enchanting. The Suffolk Coast and Heaths Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) is one of Britain's finest landscapes. It covers 150 square miles of countryside, including lowland coastal scenery, wildlife-rich wetlands and the historic Sandlings heaths. It supports rare and specialised wildlife including the Nightjar and Silver-studded butterfly. The rivers and their estuaries are teeming with wildlife during the Spring and Autumn when many thousands of wading birds and wildfowl can be seen on the marshes, reed beds and coastal lagoons, including unusual birds such as the Bittern, March Harrier and the Avocet. Away from the coast there are more secrets to discover. There are beautiful churches; historic castles; Anglo-Saxon burial sites; windmills and a fairytale meare; mysterious forests and leafy lanes; charming market towns and romantic riverside villages. Visitors enjoy the quality of its regional food and drink, and revel in its rich cultural life - the Aldeburgh Music festival, Snape Proms, Art, Poetry and Documentary festivals and world-class art galleries and concerts abound. Don't miss the Aldeburgh Food and Drink Festival where the best produce from East Suffolk’s food producers is showcased. Under the big Suffolk skies visitors will find tranquillity and an invigorating sense of space. The quality of light and crisp, clean sea air really clear the head: what could be better for a weekend escape?
