South DevonBrochureSouth Devon is a great UK destination for short or long breaks at any time of year – and is right on your doorstep.
South Devon’s scenery and climate have made the area a favoured destination for the past 250 years. Over that time, much has changed, yet much of the character and many of the local traditions have remained. The coast and countryside are still extraordinarily beautiful, which is why more than two thirds of South Devon is carefully protected as a national asset - either in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) or as part of the Dartmoor National Park. The care taken of the environment is reflected in the approach to tourism too - There’s no better way to enjoy a green holiday than in South Devon, where there are more green businesses than anywhere else in the country. South Devon has some of the most beautiful beaches in the country – from tiny sheltered coves to great sweeps of golden sands and long stretches of pebbles and shingle - Many of our beaches have been entered for awards and have passed tough tests to prove that they are also some of the safest and cleanest. The countryside away from the coast is shaped by the small farms that dominate the landscape and is dotted with delightful small towns, villages and hamlets. As you move further away from the coast, you climb steadily into Dartmoor - a vast open area of granite tors, and a host of archaeological features to fire the imagination, including the only recorded granite railway in the world. The scenery here is dramatic and if you enjoy wild, wide-open spaces, then a visit to Dartmoor is a must!
