2011 International Volunteering with Habitat for Humanity

You don’t need any special skills to volunteer with international development charity Habitat for Humanity – just a strong desire to roll up your sleeves and work alongside a local community overseas to help them tackle housing poverty through renovating or building homes.

Each trip lasts 9-14 days. It’s mostly manual labour, and the pace is fairly relaxed with lots of opportunity to get to know the local community and the issues that they face. A master builder on site will show you what to do, using local materials and construction techniques. You’ll be part of a team of 10-20 people led by an experienced Team Leader.

Over 2 billion people worldwide live in poverty housing. It’s unsafe and unhealthy, it robs people of the ability to earn a living, and leaves them with impossible choices to make about how to stretch their finances to cover essential needs for their family. Poverty housing keeps people trapped in poverty for generation after generation, dependent and vulnerable.

Working together with the local people, we can break the poverty cycle for good.
